This popular annual event lights up both shores of the estuary starting at dusk. The parade will proceed west from Fortman Marina past Oakland and Encinal Yacht Clubs. This years them is "Holiday Music". SSA will have two decorated boats in the parade this year - Tom Lewis skippering the S/V Casey and Michael Fanfa skippering The Good Wife which theme will be "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Both Captains are inviting SSA members to participate. For those SSA members who do not wish to be in the parade we have always really enjoyed joining Oakland Yacht Club upstairs with its great views, the bar and dinner. Expect the SSA boat crews to return to OYC after the parade.
The parade continues to support The Oakland Firefighters "Random Acts of Kindness" toy program and The Alameda County Community Food Bank. Participants and spectators are encouraged to donate new unwrapped toys, food or money in the bins at OYC.
Time for the Lighted Boat Parade is listed as starting at 6:00pm this year, but if you want to get a good viewing spot and bundle up try to get positioned around 5:00pm, or even earlier. You can get access to different levels of preferred location seats by buying one of several kinds of tickets. See links and more information at www.oursausalito.com. You can also watch the parade for free along much of the Sausalito waterfront. Fireworks start time varies depending on the number of boats entered, so be early and prepared.
There are tickets for sale on both the brigantine Matthew Turner and the Schooner Freda B.
This event is held rain or shine.
