August 8 we will be meeting for the 2nd time at Encinal YC. Your choice to enjoy their monthly 2nd Thursday Buffet, the fee is $20 + tax, tip or $27. SSA members and guests will sign up online and prepay and Breeze will pay the bill to EYC. EYC is not charging SSA a room fee, bar fee or event fee. Their bar will be open, pay as you go. The May 9 buffet included Chopped salad with garden vegetables, ranch dressing; Braised boneless short rib in red wine reduction; Roasted vegetable/potato medley and Lemon Bars. The buffet is the only food served at EYC that evening. You do not have to sign up for the buffet but SSA will charge $5 so we can track attendance. We will gather and mingle in the Bar, join the members eating in the dining room and then return to the bar. REPEATING $27 prepaid for the buffet; $5 if just attending the Mixer. DEADLINE is Tuesday, August 6, 5pm. And yes you will be hearing from Breeze if you don’t register :)

The raft-up is planned for Aug 31, Saturday. Targeting Belvedere Cove or Paradise Cove between 1 - 2 PM. What is a raft up? It means that the SSA Skippers will invite crews aboard and head for the destination. Once there, the boats tie up to one another and we hang out having a picnic. You are able to go safely from boat to boat for a few hours and then head home.

So far, 3 boats plan on participating (Tom, Zara, and Michael). Another boat is tentative (Rob) We might be able to invite some guest skippers so that more of the membership can get a ride. The current 3 boats can hold 18 people.

The tides favor a mid-morning departure for boats in the Oakland Estuary.

Any trip to shore is unlikely, so crew should be prepared to be aboard the whole day. Bring your PFD (personal floatation device), water, food for yourself or to share, picnic supplies. No food or beverages (like red wine) that can stain the boat. No coolers unless small. Be prepared for any kind of temperature or weather.

SSA will once more join tens of thousands of volunteers in helping to clean up the coastlines. We will join forces with Oakland YC members and focus on the Estuary. It is expected that members from all 8 clubs on Alameda will be participating. We meet at the OYC Regatta Room and the back patio. Many supplies are offered and I suggest that you bring your own gloves and water bottle. Registration is through the Event Calendar. No fee involved.
