Night Sailing Safety Notes:

When sailing at night, it ups the ante for safety.

#1 — Don't fall off the boat. Avoid leaving the cockpit unless necessary. Wear deck, court, or wet -floor shoes, and keep a grip on the boat with one hand ( or leg) when you are doing anything on deck.

#2 — If you do fall off the boat - for the safety of yourself and others - be wearing your PFD. Please check your auto-inflate system to make sure it is still armed (green).

#3 — Have a marine-rated whistle (won’t get fouled when wet) around your neck or in a pocket of something you are wearing.

#4 — Have a waterproof light source on you, such as an IPX - 7 /IP68/IPX8 waterproof flashlight on you. Or check your PFD to see if it has a strobe. You can also just buy a couple of those chemical light sticks and tie them to your PFD - you can just rip open the package and bend the stick to activate the light. I recently researched flashlights and put the best candidates under $45 in a list at the bottom.
