Two ways to participate: with a boat or on the Committee Boat. SSA will organize a group on the Committee Boat and encourage any Skipper that wants to enter the parade. The dream is to have at least one boat from every yacht club in Northern California. From the blessing of the fleet in Racoon Straits (Tiburon) to the parade of decorated boats this is a great day to be on the Bay. Dating back to 1917 and organized by PICYA, the parade runs just north of Anita Rock off the shore of Chrissy Field in the SF Presidio, follows along the city front to first Fort Mason building east of Marina Green. This is a competition according to the categories. Some boats will decorate to the theme which is open to many interpretations. Anything associated with music is celebrated whether a musician, band, music genre, musical, movie or cartoon.

Hosted by the new cooperative organization AYCC - Alameda Yacht Club Community, once again all eight of the yacht clubs will participate in their spaces to market and welcome potential new members. Each club gets to demonstrate with marketing, food, location and music its own personality. In 2023 SSA was welcomed in the Oakland Yacht Club Commodore’s Hall, but in 2024 SSA needs to find an “on the water” site that reflects its purpose and personality. SSA needs Co-Chairs to do the planning and members to be present to be enrolling!!! More details to follow

The SSA Officers for 2024 (Breeze Carlile, Katya Murthy, Chris Hiller, Kim Galindo and Jordan Shane) are excited to invite you to the May 9, 2024 Monthly Mixer, as we continue our adventures around the Island at all 7 other boating clubs on Alameda. Thursday, May 9 we are meeting again at OAKLAND YACHT CLUB. The Club is located at 1101 Pacific Marina, Alameda, on the Estuary. The Club accepts both cash and credit payments for the bar. A reminder that Oakland Yacht Club has a professional staff including the kitchen and the bartender.

The fee is $15 per person with online paid in advance registration (which will not be offered to you without you selecting “Complete Registration”) and $20 if paying at the door, even if you Register but don’t pay. Repeating, the $15 fee only applies if you both Register and Pay in advance. With either option Registration is required. The fee helps the Club cover the cost of the bartender and the food, mostly the bartender. So even if you are not eating you will be asked to pay the $15/$20. RSVP IS REQUIRED by Oakland Yacht Club, 12pm, TUESDAY, May 7.

Remember to hit “Complete Registration” when signing up. And Guests are welcome, and we will have several this month!! Please remember to wear your membership badge.

Happy to announce that SSA will be returning to Oakland Yacht Club also for the July 11 Mixer! Yayyyy

SSA Members, once again SSA member Zara Haimo has organized a picnic on Angel Island for Sunday, June 2. We have always had so much fun, so let‘s picnic again! Zara and her crew have this so dialed in it‘s amazing. Breeze will bring the large SSA banner and a way to hang it. You need to bring your own food, or food to share, and your beverage of choice. The BBQ will be lit, bring your favorite protein or veg. Bring your own plates, cups, utensils, napkins. And BYOB. Zara invites people from Meet Up and other boat clubs. Wow! A great opportunity for us to gain great new members. 2023 had a great turn out and a beautiful day. 4 SSA Skippers and crew boated over with 4 Skippers and crew from other boating organizations. The attendance was just over 75 with plenty of good food and camaraderie. Breeze will be arriving by Ferry from Tiburon. No fee is charged but we still want you to register so we know who to expect and so Skippers can see about filling their crews.
